Motorsport fans and petrol heads were treated to an adrenaline-filled spinning fest at the 18th edition of the Lüderitz Crayfish Festival. The spinning show hosted at the Old Lüderitz Golf Club on Sunday had no shortage of revving and roaring engines, screeching and popping tyres and loads of smoke.

Six spinning teams – two from Windhoek and four from Swakopmund – were in action, backed by a vociferous crowd of approximately 150 people.

The “spinners” turned on the style, had the adrenaline pumping and the crowd begging for more with their daring driving skills.

Team Kyle consisted of driver Petrus van Wyk and assistant Bernard Yvanzo in a BMW powered by a 2.8 multivalve engine.

Team Toppie had the crowd favourite Chris van Rooyen behind the steering wheel of a Lexus V8 with Robert Plaat as his assistant.

Driver Given Horaseb with Junior Brinkman as his assistant in a BMW “box” fitted with a Lexus Engine, represented Team Given_514.

Team Woerwaai consisted of driver Junior Brinkman and assistant Ysuf Saal in a BMW equipped with a 2.8 multivalve engine.

Palo Gentz (driver) and Robert Plaat (assistant) with an M20-powered BMW produced some jaw-dropping driving.

Team Frankenstein with Frank Adams as the driver and Damian Barendse as assistant in a BMW powered by a multivalve engine also added to the fun.

Event organiser Petrus van Wyk said: “We have been doing this for the past four years. It is a real crowd-pleaser. We do this for fun and out of love for spinning.

“The surface we spin on has become worn out and we are looking to revamp a second surface.

Our next stop will be in Windhoek. We will also be in action at the Diamond Festival (Oranjemund) and at Otjiwarongo.”
