Clementinus Sebastian shares his passion for the financial industry and his years of experience in the insurance industry.
Clementinus Sebastian is an independent insurance broker with over a decade of experience in the field.
He said his passion for serving clients and empowering them with financial knowledge drew him to the field.
According to Sebastian, an insurance broker should have multiple attributes to ensure the success of their career. These attributes include, but are not limited to, strong communication skills, analytical abilities, attention to detail, empathy and a deep understanding of financial markets and products.
Another important attribute is “being able to build trust and maintain long-term relationships with clients.”
Before stepping into the world of self-employment, Sebastian worked at Old Mutual as a financial advisor for five years, and after that, the rest, as they say, is history.
Conquering challenges
Soon after, he started his own company called Prospects Insurance Brokers.
“For the past four years, I’ve been running my own brokerage, offering personalised financial advice and services to clients,” Sebastian said.
He explained that his job revolves around helping individuals and families make informed decisions about their finances. This includes investment planning, retirement planning, insurance, estate planning, and saving, just to name a few.
Whether it's running your own business or working for a corporate entity, challenges will present themselves, and with that, success stories will emerge.
For Sebastian, some of the challenges he faced were adapting to the constantly changing financial landscape and regulations. However, he said being able to overcome this challenge has been among his biggest accomplishments.
“Overcoming these challenges has allowed me to continuously improve and refine my skills as a financial advisor,” Sebastian said.
When asked if he could share a few fun facts about the field in which he works, Sebastain said building trust with clients is essential, as they rely on advisors to provide sound financial guidance.
For Sebastian, the quote he lives by and that carries him through difficult times is a quote by Steve Jobs – the co-founding member and late CEO of the technology giant Apple Inc – who said: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
