The founders of Sweat Fitness Namibia aim to transform perceptions of fitness and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Lwimba Mufune, co-owner of Sweat Fitness Namibia, initially disliked doing workouts but is now making strides in the fitness industry. Despite not foreseeing a career in the sector, she has excelled and shown determination and motivation.
Mufune, originally from Lusaka, Zambia, has lived in Windhoek for more than 25 years. "Namibia is my home," she said.
She attended Constantia Private Primary School before attending Centaurus High School. She later earned a master's degree with distinction in contemporary marketing from the University of West London in the United Kingdom, as well as a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Namibia.
Combination of approaches
Sweat Fitness Namibia was founded in 2019 by Mufune, Emily Kandanga and Lwando Mufune, three female fitness enthusiasts. Each brings a unique skill set to the enterprise, including personal training, event management, marketing, and law.
Together, they aim to transform people's perceptions of fitness and promote a healthy lifestyle.
"To improve our clients' physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, we use a combination of foundational strength training, high intensity training (HIIT), mobility and flexibility training. Our bootcamp sessions are varied, engaging, and challenging for the entire body."
Unlock potential
Mufune exemplifies the values of Sweat Fitness, as she successfully lost and maintained a weight loss of 35 kg by adhering to their programme.
"The world has many complexities, but you don't have to be consumed by them. This helped change my perspective on life when I realised the importance of leading a healthier lifestyle for my overall physical and mental well-being."
During bootcamp, each person establishes their own expectations and areas of focus, whether it's to improve fitness and health, lose weight, or strength training.
The team at Sweat Fitness say: "We believe that fitness is truly a tool that can be used to unlock one’s true and greater potential."
They emphasise that: "We stand apart because we understand the journey and all of our co-founders have walked the line, we all know what it is like to set a goal and work tirelessly to achieve it."
Navigating challenges
However, Sweat Fitness Namibia, like any other business, has faced challenges and minor setbacks.
According to Mufune, the most difficult challenge they have experienced to date was the limitations placed on their physical operations during Covid-19.
To adapt, they implemented online sessions, guaranteeing that they could remain active.
Another challenge many fitness businesses encounter is that fitness is typically cyclical and has peak seasons.
Summers have a greater intake, with more people seeking fitness services, whereas winters have a slower or unstable intake.
"As a company, we solve this by collaborating with our clients to develop creative solutions to keep them engaged during normally 'slow' seasons", Mufune explained.
Finally, the team emphasises that their clients' successes are as good as their own, and they take satisfaction in building an environment that is based on the wins of the people who step up and put their best foot forward.
