For Carlo Cloete, it is all about pushing yourself beyond what you think you are capable of and forcing yourself to move outside your comfort zone.
“Continue to challenge yourself on a daily basis, because nothing ever grows in its comfort zone. Only you can be the best version of you, and I always believe that you only fail when you stop trying to succeed. The challenges will always be there, but if you are motivated to succeed, the world is your oyster.”
Cloete is a mechanical specialist at Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL), a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Group, who believes in the importance of planning, execution and teamwork.
He was born in 1978 and completed high school at Windhoek Technical High School (HTS) in 1996.
He started his career with an apprenticeship and became a qualified fitter and turner in 2000.
After receiving his trade diploma, Cloete entered the workforce in the private sector as an artisan for 14 years, where water was the name of the game. His drive and passion to assist in solving problems and contributing to the success of any organisation saw Cloete excelling in his career.
He joined the NBL team in 2014 in the packaging engineering department as a mechanical technician and in July 2016 he was appointed as mechanical specialist.
“This career is all about root cause analysis on breakdowns to prevent production loss, trouble shooting and improving the efficiency of any organisation.”
Cloete says hat problem-solving skills and time management are crucial in this field and he believes that one needs to be a technically oriented person with the necessary technical skills to keep the gears rolling and prevent production loss.
Despite daily challenges, Cloete never loses his drive and passion. “My motivation daily is to remember I am blessed to have work and blessed to be able to support and take care of my family. Every day presents a new challenge, but when you realise you can make a positive impact and be a part of the future you desire, you realise the importance of the right mindset,” he says.
“Knowing you are actively contributing to the future of the organisation and seeing how you are helping someone and seeing them grow is such an incredible privilege,” he adds.
“At NBL we have the mindset that anything is possible. As long as you are willing to learn, the sky is the limit. You need to be self-motivated and determined, and never ever stop asking questions.”
Cloete’s family loves the outdoors and camping is something they are passionate about. He believes in quality family time and hopes to always be able to provide his family with the best possible opportunities.
Cloete has first-hand experience of how change can force one to adapt and always remain flexible.
“Change is constant, and you need to be able to adapt to an ever-changing environment. When things get tough, I remember that my family and colleagues depend on me. My religion keeps me grounded and I strive to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be.”
