Khorixas still battling blocked drains
The council has had to call on the Kamanjab Village Council because they are having little success with the hydro blast pump.
Residents of Khorixas are complaining about constant drain blockages which they fear pose a health risk, especially for those who live in close proximity of the drains.
Some of the residents said although there have been attempts by the Khorixas Town Council to fix the drains, the problem persists.
“I have been living in !oas location all my life. I grew up here and I cannot recall one year that has passed without this drain next to our house blocking. I don’t know what the real issue is here, all we see is the town council workers coming to fixing the drains every time it’s blocked. We need explanations as to why this has to be this way,” said Losia Gaoses.
Another resident, Richard Gorabeb, said the smell and constant flow of dirty water could lead to an outbreak of disease.
“If the town council does not do something about these drains, we will get diseases we do not even know. I am not sure what the problem is that we have to deal with drains being blocked at least three times a month here in our location. I think the council is not doing enough to solve this problem,” he said.
Contacted for a comment, the council's chief executive officer, Andreas /Howoseb said the council has had to call on the Kamanjab Village Council because they are having little success with the hydro blast pump. He said residents keep disposing of objects that cause blockages and, in some cases, people even throw rocks in the drains.
“Our hydro blast is unable to remove whatever is blocking the pipes, there are heavy objects in the drains which the hydro blast is unable to push through, so we have made arrangements with the Kamanjab Village Council to assist us with equipment to dig and remove all pipes in the areas where blockages are usually experienced. Things that are not supposed to be thrown into drains are thrown in, causing constant drain blockages,” he said. - Nampa
