LRON hosts third Kuiseb Challenge
Land Rover Owners Namibia hosted another exciting off-road adventure in the Kuiseb River and mountains and this year's Kuiseb Challenge Trophy went to Frankie Robbertse from Kamanjab, who showed exceptional driving skills in his “stretched” Land Rover Defender.
For the third consecutive year the Land Rover Owners Namibia (LRON) organised the Kuiseb Challenge – an off-road event which took place over the long weekend of 18 - 20 March 2017 on the farm Wasservallei in the Khomas Hochland around the Kuiseb River.
LRON members and guests had the opportunity to test their vehicles in difficult mountainous and river terrain.
Apart from camping and visiting some rock paintings, activities included a 4x4 trail drive for all and a more challenging extreme 4x4 trail drive for the more experienced drivers. Both trail drives offered an extensive opportunity to get to know your vehicle and its capabilities in a safe and controlled environment.
For 4X4 enthusiasts who wished for more challenges, the river and muddy riverbanks presented a wonderful opportunity to practice further driving skills. Ever so often, the recovery of stuck vehicles presented a chance for other members to spring into action, who had participated in past recovery training events.
LRON not only organises training and off-road events, it also places emphasis on social responsibility. Last year N$30 000 from the 1st Namibia Land Rover Festival were handed over to Save the Rhino Trust (STR) while other events in support of “Oude Rust” and “Nuts For Dogs”, in addition to much needed goods, also netted N$30 000 for Oude Rust and N$10 000 for the SPCA.
This year, the breakfast event at the Dagbreek School and the annual “Nuts for Dogs” will again call on members for open their hearts and wallets.
Should you be the proud owner of a Land Rover of any model and would like to receive more information about LRON, receive their events calendar or wish to join, please contact [email protected] or call 081 124 5745.
