The Windhoek Hospitality and Culinary College (WHCC) is introducing Namibia Training Authority’s (NTA) level two housekeeping, laundry and front office programme with an apprenticeship component. With NTA programmes, WHCC will be enabling students who aspire to acquire skills and knowledge in hospitality and tourism.
By introducing this programme, WHCC is able to provide competencies required for working in housekeeping operations in roles relating to cleaning and servicing rooms, public and service areas and grounds in a hospitality establishment. Housekeeping will also be providing laundry services for the establishment and guests and by introducing front office, WHCC is able to provide competencies required for working in front office operations in roles relating to porter services, the taking of reservations and providing reception services for guests and prospective guests in a hospitality establishment. In keeping with the competency needs of this sector and the country, this training programme includes comprehensive attention to health and relationship matters associated with such things as HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, tuberculosis and malaria. Such attention could be given in the context of training associated with Unit 42 included in this qualification.
WHCC will also be taking out the Business Hotel Management School (BHMS) foundation programme and replacing it with the NTA programme so that once students graduate, they can just go through to the BHMS diploma programme. The BHMS programme is more advanced, because you get a diploma, while when you graduate from the NTA programme, you have a certificate.
WHCC provides careers for people who are high-energy individuals and have developed skills like: The ability to provide outstanding customer service; excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and media; the ability to work cooperatively with a variety of personality types; effective time management and organisation skills; strong work ethic; loyal; trustworthy, and a team player.
