Eagles, Qalandars face tough opposition
From last Thursday, the Richelieu Eagles fought tenaciously at Wanderers in Windhoek against seasoned DP World Lions of South Africa and the Lahore Qalandars of Pakistan for a victory in the Global T20 series.
Unfortunately, in all three clashes (one against the Lions and two against the Qalandars), the Namibians had to bend the knee against more experienced teams.
The Eagles (165 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs) lost their first match against the Lions (183/4 in 20 overs) by 18 runs on Thursday afternoon.
On Friday afternoon against the Qalandars (138/4), the Eagles achieved 136/8 in 20, but the visitors passed the winning target in 19.1 overs to win by six wickets. The Qalandars (158/2 in 18.5) shocked the Eagles (155/6 in 20) on Saturday afternoon with an eight-wicket victory.
In the first match, Divan la Cock (32 runs, 24 balls, 3x6), Nicol Loftie-Eaton (34, 23 b, 2x4, 2x6) and Jan Freylinck (52, 28 b, 6x4, 1x6) scored the most runs for Namibia. Bowlers Ruben Trumpelmann (two wickets for 44 runs in four overs), Ben Shikongo (1/32 in three) and Freylinck (1/14 in two) picked up wickets.
