Louwrens (107) steers Wanderers to crush United

In Cricket Namibia's 50-over Premier League, Trustco United is once again struggling to contain the front-runners.

Trustco United’s cricket team lost their 50-over Premier League away match to Samsung Imperial Wanderers by 229 runs in Pionierspark on Saturday.

The host team batted first, piling up a huge total of 360 for six in 50 overs. The Wanderers innings was fueled by a century by Lo-han Louwrens (107 off 107 balls, with eleven fours and two sixes), while his opening partner Niko Davin contributed 63 from 60 balls with five fours and four sixes.

The pair’s 139-run opening stand was only broken after 24.3 overs and already swung the tide towards the home side.

JC Balt accelerated the run rate with eight fours and four sixes to reach 88 after only 65 deliveries.

Wanderers captain Michau du Preez was dismissed for only nine runs, while JJ Smit contributed 23 off 16 deliveries.

Karl Birkenstock further bolstered Wanderers’ innings with 39 from 25 balls with three sixes and one four. The versatile Nyashadzaishe Nyasha (16 not out off 16) at number seven displayed the strength in depth of the Wanderers batting lineup.

Handré Klazinga with one wicket for 54 runs in 10 overs bowled economical. Christopher Coombe with 1/82 in 10, Tiaan Brandt with 1/38 in seven, Francois Rautenbach with 1/29 in four and Christiaan Schumacher with two for 54 runs in five also got wickets.

United was bowled out for 131 in 30.5 overs. Handré Klazinga was once again their top run-scorer with a determined 49 off 56 deliveries which included five fours. Michael Muller with 21 and Schumacher with 13 were the only other United batsmen to reach double figures.

Bernard Scholtz with three wickets for 30 runs in six overs and Niko Davin with 3/23 in four were Wanderers’ leading wicket takers. Birkenstock, Dewald Nell and Du Preez took one each.

Wanderers conceded 36 extras while United gave away 14. Wanderers helped themselves to 43 boundaries (29 fours and 14 sixes), while United had eleven fours on the score card.

LOG STANDINGS

It’s still early in the league, with only two matches played so far. United, who lost twice, is placed third, above CCD Tigers who are yet to play their first match.

The bigger margin of victory over United puts Wanderers (4 points) as the log leader above WHS Old Boys (4).
