Desert Storm headed for the coast
Mixed martial arts event
The Namibian Kickboxing Federation will be hosting its Desert Storm IV International event at the coast.
The biggest martial arts event on Namibian shores, Desert Storm IV International, will accommodate and benefit kickboxers as well as martial arts practitioners from Namibia and other African and international countries.
The title fights at the event, scheduled for 1 to 3 July at the Jan Wilken Indoor Sports Complex in Walvis Bay, will include kickboxing, Jiu-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (GI & NOGI), and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) bouts.
“It gives us immense pleasure to invite Martial artists from all over Africa and international destinations to attend the Desert Storm IV. We would be immensely proud to have teams from all over the globe taking part and martial artists showcasing their mettle at this renowned and truly Namibian competition,” said Anita de Klerk, the president of the Namibian Kickboxing Federation (NKF).
The NKF uses Desert Storm as a national trial for Namibian athletes to attend international events and world championships. The previous tournament saw more than 200 fighters from Angola, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Brazil, South Africa, Swaziland, and Namibia competing.
The entry fee for title fights is set at N$500 per fighter. “Once fighters are matched, the full amount must be paid before 31 May. The main event entry for Friday night’s mixed martial arts fights and Saturday night’s kickboxing fights is N$300 per entry. Entries for all disciplines are set at N$250 for the first entry and N$150 per additional entry or division,” De Klerk explained.
She called on interested participants to kindly indicate whether they accept the invitation as soon as possible with an acknowledgment letter accompanied by a fully completed entry form before 31 May. Admission fees for the martial arts showcase are set at N$100-200 (per day) for general admission and N$300 (per day) for front row seating. Accommodation will also be available for N$150 (per person, for a single night in a dormitory room) and N$200 (per person, for a single night in a shared bungalow). Food stalls will also be made available, with discounted meals to be offered to all participants and spectators.
