Goanikontes Oasis will be hosting a freshwater angling competition on 14 May.
Goanikontes Oasis will once again host its very popular freshwater angling competition. The stunning resort and camp, situated between the Namib Naukluft and Dorob National Parks, is located about 81 kilometers from Swakopmund.
The competition is hosted two to three times a year and does not only provide serious fishermen with the opportunity to test their freshwater angling skills, but also brings different families together for a fun-filled family-day.
“We will allow a selected 12 teams to enter. Teams will be allocated spots and rotated randomly around the dam to make the event as fair as possible. The fish will be measured because there will be different prize categories,” Dirkie Baard, who organizes the competition on behalf of Goanikontes Oasis, said.
“Those interested in taking part can bring their own fishing gear and tackle or rent a rod with gear at the lodge. A team consisting of a minimum of two and a maximum of four anglers can be entered. Bread is used for bait and will available at the lodge,” Baard added.
Baard explained that entrants will be allowed to make use of the lodge facilities and can camp or stay in the bungalows “to make it an even better weekend”. Lunch is included in the entry fee and a cash bar will also be set up right next to the dam. He also challenged anglers from all over Namibia to enter the competition. “This is an exciting and fun-filled event. The dam is normally closed to the public and only open to overnight guests. The competition gives anglers the opportunity to enjoy a day next to the dam with friends and family.”
