Fifteen new netball coaches received coaching certificates after they completed and passed their basics examination test at Kuisebmond Secondary School in Walvis Bay.

The course, organised by Netball Namibia with the assistance of the Erongo Netball Association, served the purpose of helping aspiring coaches to gain knowledge, supporting their needs, and enabling them to deliver professional netball experiences for players under their mentorship.

The Namibian Navy sports officer and chairperson for the Erongo Netball Association, Charles Muukua, said the course really enhanced the netball knowledge of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) members who managed to complete it. "This will encourage them to go to the next level. Fifteen force members wrote the examination and passed. They were awarded certificates and will go on to coach their respective unit teams.”

Magrietha Phillipus, one of the newly certified coaches, said that it was an “interesting” experience. “I learned about the basics of netball. Some of the stuff I never knew about. I am now well equipped with guidelines about the different rules in netball and how to apply them when coaching.” Phillipus has always been a huge netball fan and helped coach the Rooikop unit netball team.

Muukua expressed his gratitude towards Netball Namibia and the Erongo Netball Association for their efforts and for facilitating a successful course. "Our gratitude goes out to Kuisebmond Secondary School for availing a venue to host the course. I am also overwhelmed by the sheer number of coaches who attended. Most of them are players and this shows that the future of netball and our girl children will be in good hands.”

Muukua also encouraged more players as well as members of the community to enroll in upcoming umpire course. Interested persons can contact Juanita Witbeen at 081 738 8567.
