An open soccer tournament will be hosted in Walvis Bay.
The Guan's Packaging open soccer tournament with N$30 000 in prize money up for grabs will be hosted at the Eleven Arrows/Young Eleven sports field adjacent to the Kuisebmond stadium from 25 to 29 May.
“The open soccer tournament aims to keep Namibian footballers busy because, at this moment, there are no soccer leagues in the country,” says Revin Fischer of Guan’s Packaging and a former Eleven Arrows forward.
The entry fee is N$2 000 per team. The winners will receive N$15 000 and a floating trophy, while second place will receive N$10 000, and third place N$5 000.
“All players will be required to complete indemnity forms. Teams consisting of maximum 20 persons (including officials) will compete in a straight knockout system if there is a high turnout of teams. Should we receive less than ten entries, they will be divided and compete in a group stages format," Fisher explained.
He added that these days, many crimes are committed by young boys. "We are hosting the tournament to keep the youth positively occupied. Depending on the success of this tournament, we will host a youth tournament starting with under 17 boys.”
Fisher urged interested soccer fans to enter their teams for a day of soccer fun. “Other tournaments are also taking place in different parts of the Erongo region. We are, however, excepting teams from all over to come and showcase their talents and the community to come and support and enjoy the beautiful games. Let us support each other and take football to the next level."
The first Guan's Packaging soccer and netball tournament was hosted at the Kuisebmond Stadium in September 2014. The company - with its foundations built on four strong fundamentals: honesty, integrity, loyalty, and hard work - has been hosting matches and tournaments ever since.
