Life is an adventure

The first of many
An upcoming adventure camp will be the first of many to be hosted at the coast.

Adventurers are in for a treat with an adventure camp scheduled for 20 to 22 May at Goanikontes.

The camp will provide several outdoor challenges to be taken on with a group of friends. The obstacles will vary by location, each with its own adventure waiting to be discovered and experienced.

André Ross, the owner of Ripples Adventure, will facilitate the adventure camp. "It's about testing your understanding of yourself, your relationships with others, and your relationship with nature. I believe the outdoors has a special ability to communicate with people. When these encounters are well-facilitated, they can help people grow tremendously."

Ross says his goal with this camp is to provide young people with the option to experience this life experience on their own time, without being a part of an organisation, school, or team. "In this day and age, most young people are excellent at partaking in virtual reality events, surviving and fighting in games, and completing in complex challenges. This gives them a false sense of security in dealing with life's reality and the complexity of relationships and their abilities in challenges. The adventure camp aims to build up every participant's ability to deal with all these real complexities of life.”

Five people have already shown commitment to attend the camp, with at least five more showing interest. “We believe there will be many more deciding to join when they hear that their friends are going.”

This adventure camp is the first of many that Ross wants to host here at the coast.

Expectations

By participating in the challenges, each participant may anticipate having a great time. Every event beyond the comfort zone usually results in lasting memories and closer relationships forged. The participants will begin by learning the fundamentals of survival, such as making a fire without matches and how to tie good knots when pitching their tents. A treasure hunt and a trip across the highlands to Goanikontes' century-old ruin of the first farmers also form part of the itinerary. Participants will tackle a 15-meter abseil down a rock wall, followed by some rock climbing. Other activities include survivor games, paintball, stargazing, and building a bonfire.
