Mountain bike race and run at Henties Bay Festival
School fundraiser
A private school is hosting its annual mountain bike race and fun run as part of this year's Henties Bay Festival.
It's not just food and festivities at this year's Henties Bay Festival – there will be something for the sport spirit too, such as the annual Mini Dash mountain bike race and fun run organised by the Private Christian School Henties Bay.
Organiser Retha Odendaal said that the race was always held around October, but it started clashing with the preparation of athletes who want to participate in the Desert Dash a month or two later. So this year, it was decided that the race and run is done with the annual festival to add some activity and feet to the town's traffic over the weekend.
"It is going to be a lot of fun," she said.
Up to 80 people participated in previous year's mini dashes. The event consists of five categories to choose from: a 30km and 10km “iron man” that consist of a combo of running and cycling; a 30km and 10km mountain bike race; and a 5km “fun run”.
Tickets cost N$100 for children under 16 years of age, and N$200 for adults. According to Odendaal, the event also serves as a fundraiser for the school.
"There will be some really nice prizes too, like weekends at lodges, as well as medals."
Odendaal can be contacted at 081 258 4739 or [email protected] and details and routes of the race will be provided.
