A one-stop-shop for candles and gifts items
Candles ’n More & Factory offers a large selection of both unscented and scented candles with most being made in their own factory. All the candles are made of high-quality paraffin wax, colourants and wicks, resulting in a long burn time.
Here you can find a range of pillar candles as well as unusually shaped candles and container candles. This includes individually decorated candles, prints as well as wax décor that can be ordered for weddings, birthdays and other occasions.
Yet, as the name implies, the company has a lot more to offer.
Owner and founder Susanne Stöck established Candles ’n More in 2006, with her first shop located at the Bougain Villa Centre before she moved to Garten Street sin 2013. It was here that she started the candle factory. Today Candles ’n More & Factory is located at the Old Power Station.
Stöck’s motivation to establish her own candle factory came about when her South African supplier that had been supplying her with her biggest seller at that moment, the two-coloured scented candles, closed down.
Trials and tribulations
Stöck’s early thoughts into the possibility of starting a factory led to the birth of the Candles ’n More factory. Despite enjoying success, it also took her through various trials and tribulations.
After attending several courses, the weather turned out to be one of the biggest challenges. “The weather - mostly Namibia’s temperature fluctuations - plays a major role in the candle-making process,” Stöck says, adding that it took half a year before she could produce her first candle.
At their main branch clients are welcome to walk in and take delight in the smell and the beauty of the candles. However, with a list of suppliers, clients are not limited to visiting the Old Power Station, as the factory also supplies a few other shops around the country in towns like Omaruru and Swakopmund. One of the biggest companies to stock Candles ’n More products is the Windhoek Super Spar as well as selected guesthouses and Gondwana lodges.
White unscented candles are at the top of the market because it fits into every room and setting, the ginger-vanilla and vanilla are favourites amongst the scented candles. However, the diversity of the shop accommodates different styles and seasons. “We also do candle printing and candle decor. It's completely handmade and unique,” Stöck says.
And there’s more
Other decorative items related to candles include candle holders, hurricanes and candle plates, and collectibles like Willow Tree angels and figurines, as well as Nostalgic Art goods, which includes tins and mugs as well as Simply Bee products from South Africa. These are also body products made from beeswax, honey and propolis.
The shop also creates gift hampers and handmade soaps so you are bound to find something special for that someone special.
