Hitting the road
Colas Namibia - located in Okahandja's industrial area - is a specialist manufacturer and applicator of bitumen binders and slurry for road surfacing.
The plant helps to ensure that Namibia remains a leader in road infrastructure.
Colas supplies a full range of bitumen binder products for road surfacing, including bitumen emulsions; polymer-modified binders as well as polymer-modified bitumen emulsions; penetration and shrinkage of bitumen; and conventional slurry and microsurfaces.
Speaking to Riaan de Kock from Colas Namibia, he said that worldwide Colas is one of the largest construction companies. “What is known today as Colas Namibia started in the early 1960s as a depot in Keetmanshoop after which it moved to Okahandja. With close ties with Colas France, we could introduce a whole range of high-tech products in the local market,” Riaan said.
“When Colas came on board we agreed that we would not enter the contracting industry, but rather serve as a supplier to the industry to provide them with specialist products in road construction.”
Some major projects undertaken by Colas in the last 20 years include a 100 km stretch between Gobabis and Aminuis, 56 km of the dual carriage way between Windhoek and Okahandja, 90 km between Rundu and Divundu, and 90 km between Mariental and Keetmanshoop.
“We have been here for a long time and we are here to stay. We guarantee our work, and we make sure we deliver the best quality that meets global standards.”
