Coastal mayors welcome visitors for Easter
Influx expected over long weekend
The mayors of Swakopmund and Henties Bay are welcoming visitors to their towns over the long Easter weekend – a time when thousands of people from the inland are expected to go to the coast for a short break. Their messages have two things in common: for visitors to be safe, and to relax.
Swakopmund mayor Louisa Kativa made specific mention of the gospel of Jesus Christ, reminding visitors to remember and appreciate the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. “Let us, therefore, honour our Lord Jesus Christ for what He did on Calvary. As believers, we need to be a blessing unto others and extend love to our neighbours,” she said.
She acknowledges that Swakopmund has been one of the most preferred holiday destinations, and therefore is anticipating an influx of tourists. She welcomed the visitors and reassured them with a peaceful and enjoyable stay.
“I am positive that you will get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of our town and all the activities lined up by our local entrepreneurs,” she encouraged, adding that the municipal council prioritizes the safety of its residents and visitors and that measures have been put in place to ensure everyone’s safety during the weekend. Furthermore, Kativa cautioned residents and visitors that despite the reduction in the number of Covid-19 cases, the pandemic is not over, and urged that the necessary precautions and self-regulation during the break takes place. She also urged people to avoid drunken driving and adhere to the legal and safety regulations for the sake of the safety of everyone.
“May your Easter basket be filled with joy, happiness, and peace this season and always,” Kativa concluded.
Henties Bay mayor Lewies Vermaak said that Easter is meant as a symbol of hope, renewal and new life, and hoped that the time would “erase the results of Covid”, and enjoyed with family and friends. He also urged visitors intending to come to the coast and to Henties Bay to travel safely.
“And when you enjoy our hospitality, please look after our town and one another,” he urged, inviting visitors to go fishing, explore the desert, hike, sunbathe on the clean beaches, and view the spectacular sunsets or sunrises.
