Ambulance driver
Ambulance driver Kevin Chesney Booysen said the position requires a minimum of C1 driver’s licence and public driving permit (PDP). “My actual qualification is Paramedic: Emergency Care Practitioner Basic, and having a driver’s licence is an extra bonus because there is a high demand, particularly in the private sector,” he said.
He added that his motivation to choose this career was a desire to ‘fix’ things. “The urge to bring order from 'chaos', in this case being able to help someone in difficulty and agony, and boldly playing a significant role in reducing the patient's discomfort and pain.
“I've always been fascinated by the human body and biology, particularly the heart and the passage of blood through the body, and this has shaped my interest in emergency medicine. Keeping calm comes with experience. I was fortunate to have great mentors who helped me keep calm and focused in high-pressure situations,” he said
