Austin Chivovo: Diesel electric fitter
“Growing up, I did not know that this kind of job existed. It was by no means my dream job, until I met a friend who shed more light on trades and apprenticeships. Diesel electrical fitting is a broad trade with both electrical and mechanical engineering aspects in it. I work in the electrical department at TransNamib Holdings,” said Austin Chivovo.
“Daily, I dismantle electrical rotating equipment - namely main generators, auxiliary generators, exciters and pressure blowers - and then service and repair them. I also follow locomotives in the section to fix them if they have developed electrical faults.”
