Frieda Shigwedha
Chemist
Frieda Shigwedha
Frieda Shigwedha is a chemist by profession and the president of the Pharmaceutical Society of Namibia (PSN).
"While the title itself does not provide me with fulfilment, I take pride in leading, guiding, advising, and serving the team of dedicated chemists who have placed their trust in me."
Her responsibilities include organising meetings and events, interacting with fellow chemists and stakeholders to discuss industry trends and opportunities, collaborating with the team to prepare for events such as the PSN conference and annual general meeting, marketing the society, and establishing connections with academic institutions for potential partnerships on pharmacy-related initiatives, among many others. "The list is endless," she says.
"Being president is primarily an act of community service. It entails helping not only the pharmacists but also the patients we genuinely care about and, eventually, serving the entire profession," she says.
"This position provides me with the chance and responsibility to effect big and beneficial changes in the industry. I find enormous inspiration in learning from individuals who have an impact in my sector. As pharmacists, our primary goal is patient care, but we also strive to strengthen our purpose, ensure the sustainability of our profession, and aspire to become exceptional and flourishing healthcare professionals."
