Taxi driver: Enzo Visagie

Enzo Visagie is a dynamic entrepreneur who has integrated his passion for cars into a business.

Visagie's venture, that launched in 2023, encompasses working on cars, selling them and providing transportation services.

His journey into entrepreneurship was fuelled by a desire to escape the draining demands and low wages of working for others.

Visagie recognised the potential for growth and stability that comes with owning a business and decided to take the leap, even in a challenging economic environment. “I figured if I start now, it will get better as time goes on,” he said.

“Starting a business in Namibia comes with its own set of hardships, particularly for a young entrepreneur."

Visagie narrated that he faced the daunting task of balancing his role as his own boss, ensuring proper money management and acquiring financial literacy. “I quickly learnt that the road to success demands longer hours and sometimes working more for less to ensure quality and build a long-term client base.”

The skepticism of potential clients towards new businesses and young entrepreneurs added to the initial challenges.

Visagie’s business also includes working as a taxi driver, a role that goes beyond simply driving a car. Taxi drivers are responsible for transporting passengers to their destinations, ensuring a safe and efficient journey. This involves navigating the city streets, understanding the quickest and safest routes, and providing excellent customer service.

Taxi drivers often work long hours and must handle various customer needs and behaviors, all while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanour.

Despite these obstacles, Visagie remains positive. “I believes there is no perfect time to start a business - one must begin today,” he said. His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to make connections within their chosen industry and gain experience by working for others first.

“This experience not only provides the necessary skills and money to start a business, but also helps to keep emotions in check during tough times,” he said.
