Travel blogger: Ruben Lambrechts

Zoe Karsten
Ruben Lambrechts began blogging in February 2023.

According to him, a travel blogger inspires people to explore travel destinations and highlights the must-visit places in a stunning country like Namibia. Travel bloggers can make money on Instagram or other platforms by monetising their blogs with the aim of either funding their travels or earning a professional income.

After schooling in Windhoek, Lambrechts took a year off and went to work with his brother on farms in Australia. He then studied BCom marketing and business management at Stellenbosch University. However, Covid-19 hampered his studies and he returned to Windhoek where he started working while completing his studies.

Some of his most cherished experiences in Namibia included a visit to Camp Kipwe, located near Twyfelfontein, where he encountered desert-adapted elephants; engaging with the Ovahimba community in the north-western region of Namibia; and a visit to Etosha National Park, which he said always offers unique sightings. "It never gets old," he said.

The primary qualifications for becoming a travel blogger are excellent writing, photography and time-management skills. An article from She Knows SEO website, 'What is a Travel Blog', stated that most travel blogs focus on something specific, like a style of travel, a specific destination or something else like what to pack or the best food along the road. Lambrechts is fascinated by the beauty of Namibia and wants to showcase all of our country's hidden gems.

His love for animals and the outdoors has gained him immense popularity on Instagram, where he boasts a whopping one million followers, as the opportunity to do what he loves.

“In general, Namibia is a travel blogger's paradise with unique places, people and wildlife to blog about," he said. "With every trip, I experience the feeling of how privileged we are to be able to call this beautiful country our home. Every part of our country is so unique - the landscape, animals and friendly people."
