Employees from Swakop Uranium donated 80 blankets and food parcels to the Swakopmund Municipality’s Vulnerable Committee last week.

The first recipients of this donation are 11 fire victims who lost their belongings in a fire on 10 August.

The Office of the Mayor has been actively addressing the challenges faced by community members. The recent fire affected seven households, leaving the families without any belongings. In their efforts to assist these families, they reached out to stakeholders for support.

Deputy mayor of Swakopmund, David Am-!Gabeb, said that this donation is a shining example of how, together, lives can be rebuilt. “In times of crisis, it is not just about what we give, but the spirit in which we give it. This donation represents hope and warmth to families who have lost their homes and belongings. I want to thank Swakop Uranium for stepping forward; your spirit and commitment to our community embody the values we uphold.”

He thanked everyone involved in making the donation possible and encouraged the community to continue standing united in both good and challenging times. “To the families affected, we want you to know that we stand byyou, and we are committed to doing everything we can to support those who are affected during this difficult time. Let us cultivate the spirit of giving selflessly; it does not necessarily have to be in the form of food or clothing; we can also show care and love by being there for one another.”
