Reptile Mineral Resources and Exploration donated sports equipment valued at N$21 100 to MTC Dome’s Game Changers & Future Stars athletes.

The donation supports the Future Stars Hockey and GameChanger programmes, two initiatives aimed at nurturing young talent and fostering a love for sports among underprivileged youth in Swakopmund.

The Future Stars Hockey programme in Swakopmund caters to 20 boys and girls from Swakopmund Primary School aged nine to ten. These enthusiastic young athletes engage in training sessions focused on developing their hockey skills, from stick handling to basic game strategies.

The programme emphasizes not only physical prowess but also teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, with training held twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.

The Future Stars Hockey programme has witnessed remarkable progress among its participants. With the support of dedicated coaches and a nurturing environment, the children are growing more confident and skilled with each session.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to prepare these budding athletes for the K5 Indoor World Cup scheduled for the first quarter of 2025 in Windhoek, where they will have the opportunity to showcase their talents on a larger stage.

RMR’s support also extends to the GameChangers netball programme, which currently engages 21 girls from underprivileged backgrounds. These girls, comprising three teams, undergo training sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays at the MTC Dome netball courts.

Through the dedicated efforts of the GameChangers and their coaches, significant transformations have been observed in these young athletes. From learning essential life skills to fostering a sense of teamwork and respect, the GameChangers programme aims to equip these girls for success both on and off the court.

RMR donated 20 indoor hockey sticks, 30 balls, and 22 t-shirts to Future Stars, and two mobile netball posts to the GameChangers.

Speaking about the impact of the programme, Mr. Johann van der Merwe, SHER manager, stated, “We believe that through sports, young individuals can not only hone their athletic abilities but also develop essential character traits that are invaluable for success in life. We are proud to support initiatives like Future Stars Hockey and GameChangers, which empower the youth and contribute to their holistic development.”
