Erongo Governor awarded as Best Performing Governor
Top leadership award
The Erongo Governor received an award; Africa's Best Performing Governor of the Year.
The Governor of the Erongo Region, Neville Andre, was recently honoured with the African Business Leadership Award (ABLA) for being Africa’s Best Performing Governor of the Year.
The prestigious award was presented during the ninth Africa Leadership Summit 2024, held in London on 17 and 18 July. The summit was a major gathering of influential leaders and policymakers all across Africa, the United Kingdom, and beyond. The summit aimed at discussing the future of the African continent and driving progress.
Achievement
The Governor's recognition marks a historic achievement as it is the first time a Regional Governor from Namibia has received such a distinguished accomplishment. “I am honoured and extremely happy to accept this award on behalf of the Erongo Region,” he said. “This recognition is a testament to the collective efforts and dedication of everyone in our region.”
The African Leadership Magazine, which organised the summit, has become a highly respected platform for celebrating exceptional leaders who make significant contributions to Africa’s socio-economic development. The ABLA is known for honouring individuals and organisations that drive progress and innovation, and this year’s event was described as a “crowning appendage of the prestigious convention.”
The Journey
The journey to this recognition began just over three months ago when the Governor received an invitation indicating he would be awarded. “Initially, we approached the news with a degree of scepticism, given the world we live in,” he explained. “However, after conducting thorough research, we confirmed the event’s legitimacy and were excited to participate.”
Andre’s acceptance of the award at the summit highlighted the dynamic and transformative leadership which has characterised his term in office. The award celebrates not just his achievements but also the collaborative efforts of his team, the local community, and the support from the central government.
In his acceptance speech, Andre expressed profound gratitude to several key individuals who contributed to his successes. “I dedicate this award to the Late President Hage Godfried Geingob,” he said. “His guidance and support have been instrumental in my leadership journey.” He also extended his thanks to the central government for its consistent assistance and to his family for their unwavering support during challenging times.
“My family has been a source of strength and motivation,” Andre noted. “Their support has been invaluable in our shared journey towards progress in the Erongo Region.”
Andre also praised the residents and business community of the Erongo Region. “This award belongs to all of us,” he affirmed. “The cooperation and support from the people of Erongo have been crucial in achieving our goals. Our vibrant business community is always ready to contribute to regional development, and this recognition reflects our collective success.”
The summit also celebrated other notable leaders. Hon. Lucia Ipumbu received the award for Best African Minister for Trade, highlighting her impactful work in advancing trade and industrialization across the continent. Additionally, Hon. James Uerikua was honoured with a special Congressional Commendation from the South Carolina General Assembly for his exemplary leadership.
