Choppies opens 20th store in Namibia
Choppies officially opened its 20th store in Namibia, located in Swakopmund on 27 June. The store is situated in Mondesa to the benefit of less privileged communities.
Speaking at the opening, the governor of the Erongo region, Neville Andre, shared his gratitude about this development, emphasising the importance of embracing local economic development.
Andre called on retailers to prioritise locally-produced goods and to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). “I want to urge the owners of Choppies that besides other shops that are going to be part of this centre, to buy products that are locally produced."
Highlighting the economic potential within the region, Andre mentioned that assistance and cooperation are crucial to enhancing the economic value chain.
Choppies offers a range of products and fresh produce catering to the diverse needs of the community. The retailer will operate from Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 20:00.
Swakopmund mayor Dina Namubes, echoed Andre's sentiments, emphasising the benefits the shop brings to the community. "It is only through hard work, dedication and ashared vision that we can make Swakopmund a world-class city."
Reflecting on the positive impact of the store's opening, Namubes added: "This new shop not only brings quality products and services closer to our residents, but has also created job opportunities and fostered local economic development."
The Choppies store in Swakopmund has already employed 51 individuals from the local community, underscoring the store's contribution to local employment and economic vitality.
"I hope that community members will choose to shop locally and support businesses here, ensuring that we invest in our own communities' prosperity and well-being," Namubes concluded.
