Here comes Ray Sasman!
In a bid to raise funds for the envisioned Narraville Youth Centre in Walvis Bay as well as for youth empowerment, Ray Sasman has walked 210 kilometres from her starting point, Noordoewer, and has now reached Keetmanshoop.
Speaking to Erongo 24/7 from Keetmanshoop, Sasman stated that this first stretch was quite the challenge.
“I encountered steep inclines, suffered severe heatstroke, as well as dehydration 90 kilometers before Grünau – it was very tough. I made it to Grünau with a lift, where I recuperated for two days.”
She said that the rest of the way was very easygoing.
“I had amazing support from the Grünau farming community, who offered me water and even a bed to sleep in. I received great hospitality every night, so I felt really safe and taken care of.”
Sasman reached Keetmanshoop on Sunday.
“I average about 20 kilometers per day at the moment, but I am hoping for that to speed up. I am leaving Keetmanshoop today to make my way towards Mariental. I’m looking forward to the road, the support from vehicles passing by, and the farming community between Keetmanshoop and Mariental.”
She expressed her gratitude to the Namibian police, who have been on the lookout for her along the way.
“I am very grateful for all the amazing support. It has exceeded my expectations. Anyone is more than welcome to join me on any stretch of road. I had some lovely people from Keetmanshoop walking with me into town, and there will definitely be a few accompanying me out of Keetmanshoop.”
The planned route starts from the south of Namibia, along the B1, to the north of Namibia. The route involves walking from Noordoewer to Keetmanshoop, then to Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Rundu, and finally to Kazangula, at the tip of the Zambezi Region. – [email protected]
