Largest floating book fair visits Namibia
She's here!
The Logos Hope arrived on Friday and is currently docked at the port of Walvis Bay.
The world’s largest floating book fair, Logos Hope, returned to Walvis Bay on Friday after eight years. Logos Hope last visited Namibia in August 2016. She will officially be open to the public as from Friday.
At a media conference preceding her arrival, Erongo regional governor Andre Neville said that they have invited all schools, both regionally and nationally, to visit Logos Hope and participate in activities. He expressed satisfaction at the positive response from the community, adding that the team has engaged churches in both Walvis Bay and Swakopmund.
“We are pleased to see various activities being organised by the crew members of Logos Hope in both Swakopmund and Walvis Bay. We invite leaders from all sectors to volunteer on the ship and offer services to visitors. I am excited and want to ensure that all sector leaders are part of this initiative,” Neville said.
He added that they are proud to have Namibians as part of the crew, showcasing the Namibian flag on the vessel.
Swakopmund mayor Dina Namubes shared her enthusiasm for the visit, emphasising the benefits for the community, especially the youth. “The arrival of Logos Hope provides access to those who have never been on board a ship and offers offshore reading opportunities. It’s very exciting for our community. I’m thrilled to see unity among people from different parts of the world. This visit creates a platform for interaction.”
Kleincy Amaral, part of the advance team in Namibia, highlighted the goals of Logos Hope: To share knowledge, help, and hope.
“Logos Hope’s onboard book fair offers a selection of over 5 000 titles at affordable prices. The subjects range from science, sports and hobbies to cookery, arts, medicine, language and faith. With children’s titles, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and more, the book fair has something for the whole family to enjoy,” Amaral said.
The vessel will be open to the public from Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 to 20:00, Saturday from 10:00 to 20:00, and Sunday from 13:00 to 20:00. The last tickets are sold until one hour before closing (19:00). The entrance fee for ages 13 to 64 is N$10 per person, while children under 12 and adults over 65 enter for free.
