Stepping Stone raises N$95 000 with Galjoen Derby

Leandrea Mouers
Stepping Stone School, a registered private school for neurodivergent children in Namibia, is revolutionizing education by providing a nurturing and tailored environment for children with unique cognitive needs.

The school offers personalized learning plans which address the specific challenges faced by each student, fostering their growth and development in a supportive setting.

The school is divided into two distinct streams: the Complex Needs Stream and the Learning Support Stream. The Complex Needs Stream caters to learners with comorbid conditions, offering individualized support to help them achieve their full potential within the Stepping Stone Curriculum. The Learning Support Stream, on the other hand, is designed for students who require additional resources, learning strategies, and social integration support to thrive within the National Mainstream Curriculum.

Stepping Stone School embraces the concept of neurodiversity, which acknowledges neurological differences like autism, ADHD, and dyslexia as natural variations in human cognition.

Despite its success, Stepping Stone School is still growing and faces financial challenges. Currently renting its facilities, the school is actively fundraising to build its own campus. At its most recent event, the Galjoen Derby, the school raised N$95,490, bringing them closer to their goal. A highlight of the event was Zillian Du Pisani's impressive catch of a 2.270-kilogram Galjoen, which earned him the N$20,000 cash prize.

With around 45 learners and many more on the waiting list, the school is also seeking sponsorships to support children in need.
