The Swakopmund and Walvis Bay Lions Club welcomed new presidents to lead their organisations for the next year.
The Swakopmund and Walvis Bay Lions Clubs swore in new presidents to lead their respective organisations on 30 June.
David Koch was appointed as the new president of the Lions Club Walvis Bay, while Jonathan Wilsnach is now head of the Lions Club Swakopmund.
Both will serve from 1 July to 30 June 2025.
Koch expressed his gratitude, saying: “I am proud and honoured to serve as president of the Lions Club Walvis Bay. The aim is to continue to make a meaningful impact and bring positive changes to our community.
"Our goal is to provide assistance to the needy through charitable events while working on long-term solutions that empower individuals to break the cycle of poverty," Koch said.
Wilsnach said he was honoured at being elected as president. “I am grateful to be chosen as the president of the Lions Club Swakopmund, which has a rich history of service, dedication, and compassion.
“The commitment and tireless efforts of the Lions Club Swakopmund members are the foundation of our success. Their passion for service and dedication to our community inspire me every day. I am excited about what we can achieve together in the coming year.”
Wilsnach emphasised the importance of forming partnerships with other similar groups in Swakopmund to extend the club's reach and amplify its impact. He highlighted plans for joint efforts with the Swakopmund municipality to build a stronger, more resilient community.
“As the club and I embark on this new chapter, we will embrace the slogan of our newly elected Lions Club International President, Fabricio Oliveira: 'Make Your Mark'. These words challenge us to leave a lasting impact on our community and the world.”
Wilsnach also highlighted his plans for the next year. “In the coming year, we will focus on health and wellness, education, environmental sustainability and disaster relief.
"The aim is to continue the club’s legacy of making a tangible difference in the lives of those it serves, exploring new opportunities to expand its impact, and seeking innovative solutions to address emerging challenges,” Wilsnach said.
As the Lions Club of Swakopmund celebrates its 65th anniversary, Wilsnach reflected on the club's legacy. “This milestone is a testament to the commitment of our members, past and present, who have worked tirelessly to uphold our values and mission. Together, we have built a strong foundation that will continue to guide us in our efforts to serve and uplift our community.”
