Financial Journalist
Phillepus Uusiku- Financial Journalist
Phillepus Uusiku is a financial journalist for Market Watch, the financial section of Namibia Media Holdings’ dailies - Namibian Sun, Republikein and Allgemeine Zeitung. Uusiku completed his Economics studies at the University of Namibia. Working for Market Watch requires specialised skills and being a trained economist allows him to successfully carry out duties to interpret technical economic terms, he explained.
Analysing reports, attending presentations and analysing financial statistics are only a few of the daily activities he has to carry out. “To ensure that stories carry weight, I work closely with industry experts to get their input on trending business, financial and economic developments,” he said.
Sharing the equally important downsides of this career, Uusiku says incorporating challenges faced by communities in his articles gives him a sense of satisfaction as he can come up with his own sourced stories for publication. He further added that having the opportunity to interact with policy makers and industry regulators is equally rewarding. “Being a journalist gives you the opportunity to have access to a wide range of information. Sourcing content while trying to meet strict deadlines can be challenging at times, but proper planning and having a good working relationship with different stakeholders to request for information is key to getting the job done,” he said.
