Namibia bans poultry imports from Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul
The agriculture ministry has announced the suspension of the import of poultry products from the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil due to an outbreak of Newcastle disease.
The Directorate of Veterinary Services informed importers that all poultry and related products and shipments containing such products will be rejected and returned, backdated to 18 June.
All previously issued import and transit permits for Rio Grande do Sul are cancelled and revoked with immediate effect. Cooked poultry meat products for commercial purposes may still be imported under the veterinary import permit, the notice states.
