34 years of patriotic progression
Oranjemund-born Glenda Manthe-Grobler has spent 34 years sowing seeds of progression at NMH.
Glenda Manthe-Grobler is celebrating 34 years at Namibia Media Holdings, formerly known as Democratic Media Holdings, where she started in 1988 at the tender age of 26 as a sales manager for The Times of Namibia. The company has seen Manthe-Grobler grow tremendously as she shared her experience of organising the Miss Namibia pageant when she started at the company in 1988.
The Oranjemund-born Manthe-Grobler moved to Cape Town alone at the age of 13 to pursue a high school education. “On my thirteenth birthday I left home and it was the first time I was on an airplane. At that time, Oranjemund did not have a secondary school, which meant that everyone that wanted to go to high school had to go to boarding school in Windhoek or Cape Town. I had never lived in Windhoek until I started working here,” Manthe-Grobler said in an interview with Careers Hub.
Manthe-Grobler studied in Cape Town where she completed a Tourism Secretarial diploma and later collected a few marketing management credits in East London. She worked and lived in Johannesburg as well. Having spent most of her early career years in South Africa, Manthe-Grobler said moving back to Namibia and living here was ultimately what she wanted. “I am a very patriotic Namibian; I think Namibia is the best country to live in. It’s a privilege to live here. The people here are so warm and welcoming in addition to the active investment into the future – our youth.”
The hardworking relationship manager says that despite her retirement date nearing, she loves working, particularly engaging with various clients, and will continue working if allowed to.
With her expanded portfolio and years of experience, her advice to the younger generation entering any industry is to give their personal best all the time in all that they do. “The world is your oyster and you are your biggest and only limitation. Whatever is your best, give exactly that all the time,” she says.
Manthe-Grobler, who has worked on both the Namibian and South African tourism boards, has been involved in the planning and execution of the Gecko Awards as well as the Namibian Tourism Expo.
