Dr Lemmer High School celebrates 75 years of excellence

Tracy Tangwadzana and Elizabeth Nepolo
Dr Lemmer High School jubilantly celebrated its 75th birthday by parading through the streets of Rehoboth, with each grade dressed according to their assigned themes. The learners did not disappoint! The grade eights wore cartoon-themed outfits that were beyond creative, while the grade nines showed up in Egyptian attire and were adorned with bracelets, hats and armlets that perfectly suited the theme.

The grade 10s arrived in cowboy hats, bandannas, cowboy boots and jeans to fit the 'Wild West' theme. Meanwhile, grade 11s embodied the clown theme as they all looked like walking confetti explosions and rainbow wig warriors.

The mafia theme was assigned to grade 12 learners and they certainly did not disappoint. They totally captured the essence of the theme with their dapper suits, fedora hats and trench coats that added an air of mystery.

The school’s parade can be described as a street party extravaganza. The learners, in their diverse ensembles, strutted through the streets of Rehoboth from the Hermanus Van Wyk town hall as their starting point.

From there, they all walked, returning to the school grounds. The creatively embellished bus trailers also made their way through the town’s streets, showing off the fun decorations the learners made.

All in all, Dr Lemmer High School’s 75th anniversary celebration was something not to miss. It truly showed the joy, unity and deep bonds forged over the 7.5 decades. Here’s to many more years of success, growth and unity for Dr Lemmer High School, the fountain of excellence.

The relay competition held on the day of the celebration was a success, with learners all the way from Mariental and South Africa joining Dr Lemmer High School on the school sports ground. The friendly rivalry as well as the shouts of excitements are what made this day so memorable.
