Windhoek-born athlete making a name for herself while pushing boundaries.

Ten-year-old Quenty Nelly-Ann Krohne is a Windhoek-born athlete who has been leaving scuff marks on the track since she was five years old. Being born to sports teacher and former Orlando Pirates team manager, Jo-Ann Thys Krohne, the young aspiring athlete has always been exposed to sports and has developed a strong affinity for it.
At the tender age of nine, the young sportswoman managed to set a new record at the 2021 Zone C athletics competition in long-jump with a staggering 3.97-metre jump. The grade five Windhoek Gymnasium pupil said as much as it comes naturally to her because she loves it, it still requires hard work and training.
Her accolades range from Windhoek Gymnasium’s inter-house best female athlete in three different age groups in both field and track items to regional awards obtained in Khomas, Erongo, Hardap and Otjozondjupa at their respective athletics events.
With exactly 21 gold medals, 20 silver medals and nine bronze medals in her possession, Krohne continues to train hard every week day as she hopes to break her own records in future and those set by others as well.
The multi-facetted girl plays and trains for a range of sports during the week including athletics training – both track and field - from Monday to Thursday, has netball training every Tuesday and Thursday, swimming classes every Monday and Wednesday as well soccer on Wednesdays.
In addition to training as a means to actively achieve her personal athletic goals, the young Krohne said she also makes sure to eat well, stay hydrated and get sufficient sleep.
“It takes a lot of discipline to balance school and all the sporting activities I do after school. Fortunately, all these things make me happy so it is easy to stay disciplined even when I get tired,” the precocious 10-year-old said in an interview with The Zone.
When she’s not training on the track or fluttering in the pool, the young athlete enjoys outdoor activities with her close-knit family and makes times to read daily as she has hopes of one day studying and practicing law.
