OYO announces 2023 patron during first public performance
The Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) dance troupe performed its repertoire pieces ‘Not Again’, ‘Another Party with Helen’ and ‘Value Thy Earth’ on Wednesday, 22 February, at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) in Windhoek. The performances, which also featured the public premiere of ‘Finlandia’, took place in front of a full house.
At the event, the organisation also introduced its first patron, justice minister Yvonne Dausab.
“It was not difficult to say yes to the invitation,” she said, adding that OYO works from the heart.
“The work OYO does with dance and arts is very commendable. It is reaching the youth in a way that is unique and impactful. I feel honoured to be their first ever patron.”
During the event, OYO director Dr Philippe Talavera further announced the organisation's 2023 programme. Highlights include the production of cabaret ‘Remembering Johnny’ in collaboration with the FNCC and local schools in August; the production of an inter-disciplinary dance piece ‘Picasso’s Letters’ in collaboration with the Spanish embassy, and the production of its new film as part of a project working with street children, in collaboration with the German embassy.
