The search for the next Miss Namibia is on
A chance to make a difference
Entries for the Miss Namibia pageant closed on Tuesday.
Applications for Miss Namibia 2022 closed on 19 April.
Miss Namibia ultimately represents her country and its people at national and international events. Along with the honors and prizes come the duties and responsibilities associated with the title. The reigning queen has a one-of-a-kind opportunity to make a difference in the lives of many Namibians while also promoting the interests of her country.
One of the main requirements is that contestants must commit to the pageant's rules and refrain from fighting, disrupting, or interfering with any program or event in the competition, They must also refrain from making false accusations/statements of any kind to anyone.
All contestants must participate in the Miss Debutant Initiative and are required to adhere to all the rules and conditions. They are also required to perform a limited number of engagements.
Chelsi Tashaleen Shikongo is the reigning Miss Namibia. She was named after and inspired to enter Miss Namibia and take part in Miss Universe by her namesake, the late Chelsi Pearl Smith, who was crowned Miss Universe 1995 in Namibia.
Last year, Chelsi represented Namibia on the Miss Universe stage on 12 December,. She competed against 79 other candidates in Eilat, Israel, and was among the top five contestants that received the most public votes at the pageant.
In just two days, she raised N$22 000 for the 150 families who lost their homes to a devastating fire in Walvis Bay in 2020. Chelsi is determined to start The Chelsi Shikongo Foundation and advocates for the implementation of a Food Donation Act in aid of low-income families and the homeless.
She describes her Miss Namibia-journey as the most amazing and humbling experience and her advice to her successor is that emotional intelligence goes a long way. “Always be a professional, do not be afraid to speak up. This will be the best and most challenging time of your life.”
