A spirit of discernment
EUNICE ANN VAN ZYL WRITES:
I saw recently on the BBC that more than six million people died world wide of the corona virus. In the midst of all man’s theories God know the truth.
I also heard recently that someone felt his duty was to tell people how afraid my husband was during his ordeal with covid. I find that disrespectful.
There are many things that people do that they should be ashamed of. Being afraid is not one of those.
The Lord Jesus Christ was also afraid before He went to the cross on our behalf.
Luke 22:42 (The Lord Jesus praying):
Saying “Father if it is Your will, take this cup away from me, nevertheless not my will but yours be done.”
We are living in a time where discernment is lacking in many of our actions.
The Oxford dictionary describes a “discerning” spirit as “having or showing good judgement”.
When I was a young person, I knew a poem called “The fool’s prayer.”
It was about the king who called the court jester to amuse his guests with a prayer.
One of the lines that the “wise” jester prayed was:
“The ill-timed truth you might have kept, who knows how sharp it pierced and stung.”
May our Heavenly Father bless us, His children with a spirit of discernment.
At remembering of the Lord Jesus Christ ascending into heaven, we are reminded of the promise of His “second coming”.
The Acts 1:10-11 (New King James):
“And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said: ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven’.”
Praise the Lord!
