Anti-German sentiment

Mandy Rittmann
SAPIENS WRITES:

The German “South West Africa” colony was established at the European Colonial Conference in Berlin in 1884. Other parties involved in dividing up Africa were Britain, France, Portugal, Italy and Belgium.

The “Gold” Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902 was a trigger for British interference in SWA with the Nama/Herero uprising. The Germans supplied Paul Kruger with Krupp artillery and Mauser rifles. In revenge, the British supplied Lee Enfield rifles, via Betjuana Land, the Cape Colony and Walvis Bay (British) to the Nama/Herero uprising. This went down in history as a “Genocide” event.

In the twentieth century we had two world wars, the South African mandate rule, the Liberation struggle, and Independence in 1990.

The German factor is still strong in Namibia. There are many influential German speaking residents in farming, industry, tourism and business, who contribute to socio-economic upliftment, in an independent country at peace.

Germany in the E.U is the single biggest sponsor of development aid to Namibia. In addition the massive German tourist influx benefits thousands of Namibians for a better future.

Know your history (hindsight) so you don’t repeat mistakes. Namibia is part of SACU/SADC/African Union and the UN is a post-colonial success!

We all share this place. We all belong.

So, let us get along. In peace, harmony and prosperity for the common good – Vision 2030.

Germans are part of the solution, for a better Namibia. They are friends.
