Chieftaincy impasse

Dani Booysen
BAB WRITES FROM VAALGRAS:

I put the blame for the ominous silence about the replacement of our late Chief, Mr. Joël Stephanus, squarely at the door step of surviving traditional councillors under the leadership of the Chief Cllr. Martin Biwa. They know exactly what legacy was left behind, but they are doing nothing to change the frustrating status quo.

A fishing giant called Hompa Investment, spearheaded by the Kudumo family, injected some N$230 000 into the bank accounts of all 52 recognized Traditional Authorities in Namibia. Are they practicing delay-tactics to lay hands on that money before setting into motion the process of replacing the late Chief?

It's mind-boggling that the divide and rule tactics of the previous regime continues. The non- existing facts that form the gist of the visible delay tactics, frustrates the community, who are already attempting to remove them.

The worst part is that they're in the political shadow of the Swapo Government and long-time comrades, which has nothing to do with the suffering of the masses.

The Urban and Rural Development Minister, Hon . Erastus Utoni, and H. E. Cde. President Geingob should step in and take immediate corrective measures to defuse this situation.

The surviving leadership is literally afraid to meet with the broad community for the simple reason that they are reportedly reluctant to be removed. They must know that we are sick and tired and I therefore extend a serious warning to them that they are sleeping on a ticking time-bomb.

Misconstrued claims about the purity of the successor, are unconstitutional. They are interfering with the fundamental rights of the inhabitants and their ludicrous and abhorant management style do very little or nothing to pull the community out of the quagmire f poverty.

Central Government should stop entertaining this type of management in traditional communities before we take the law into our own hands. Government, as the referee, must intervene and resolve these impasses in all Traditional Authorities.
