Employers please be aware of scam
ANONYMOUS WRITES:
A well-established HR Practitioner Consulting business for 17 years has yesterday and today received complaints from its clientele that they are phoned by individuals that they will be issued with a warrant of arrest if they don't pay an amount. This due to transgressing the Labour Law. The employers are then instructed to pay N$10 000 up to N$11 000 or more into an account number immediately provided by these individuals. If not, the employer will be locked up. (This is a scam not heard of). Employers are informed that any Labour matters are dealt with by the Ministry of Labour, Labour Inspectors and or the Labour Commissioner’s Office. The Namibian Police has no jurisdiction over labour matters unless human lives are in danger. It could be a possibility that some or other police officers are involved issuing a warrant of arrest to these individuals who then use same to scare employers into paying whatever amount. Employers are requested to immediately report such to the relevant authorities (Namibian Police) if they do receive such telephone calls. The Namibian Employers Federation has already been informed accordingly.
Information given to clients does not include Affirmative Action Reports which is law. Only unfair labour matters are referred to by these individuals.
