Gender Equity Politics
SAPIENS WRITES:
According to our constitution, women and men have equal status in Namibia. However in practice this is not so. We have a Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, to correct this bias of lesser status for women.
In Genesis, Eve was created from “Adam's rib” to be his supportive companion. This status seems to stick even in the twenty-first century.
Only half the children in Namibia grow up in a secure, supportive, safe, loving environment or a stable family unit. The role model men are often missing.
They come and go at their pleasure. If it were not for the caring mothers and grandmothers, many children would be permanently stunted physically besides being absent, many biological fathers don’t pay maintenance hence the Magistrates are very busy correcting this irresponsibility.
I recommend that at the antenatal clinic, the biological unmarried father be identified. He must then sign a stop order to pay for his share or the pregnancy, as the mother has to stop working.
A family is the future, in the spirit of UBUNTU (I am because we are).
At present, fifty percent of children are half orphans because of missing link fathers. We can and must do better for Vision 2030.
In November 2024, we have a choice between Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah (SWAPO) and Dr. Panduleni Itula (IPC). Who will deliver on a better future for all?
