It should all be about productivity
WILMA BEZUIDENHOUDT WRITES:
This letter refers to the complaints about the 400 000 hectares in the hands of German descendants.
The question that we should ask, is what is the percentage of all land occupied by them? Is it used productively? Do they contribute to the Namibian economy?
Is the remaining percentage of the land and land in the hands of the government used productively? Does it contribute towards the Namibian economy?
What about the distribution of the land? Has the process been fair? Does it really address the issue? Did they reach their goal half-way? What is the aim really for the redistribution of the land? To eradicate poverty? What is the purpose?
Where do the farms go? Does it go to the leadership in charge of the government? Does it really go to the people who need it?
Or does it only go to the people who have salaries who can maintain the farms? Is the process effective?
Do people really farm and use land productively? Or do they go to farms and eat pap and go hungry and make land less productive?
Land distribution should be fair. It should reach the needy ones.
Who are the needy ones? They are the real underprivileged ones. Their lives should change the moment they go near the farms? But do they have the money or the resources?
Does the loans by Agricultural Bank really go toward the needy or does it go to people who have the salaries who can pay them back.
Please come up with a process that will put money in the people's hands on the farms. So that they can make the farms productive. Give them money and resources that will help them to purchase cows, sheep, chicken, tractors, seed, irrigation systems etc.
They should be able to plant and eat and the surplus should be able to be sold on the markets. People’s lives should turn around and productivity on the farms should increase.
People own large pieces of land and are still hungry? Address the issue. Then we can land reform is effective.
People need money to invest in farms.
Namibia has huge open spaces of land. They say 'east west home best'. Things can be rough and cold out there. But when you go home, it should be warm and your family should be comfortable. Please come up with a process that will address the homeless issue.
HOMELESSNESS AND OTHER ISSUES
I understand that there is a cement factory and there are skilled people who can build cheap homes. Please, can the homeless people who are penniless get money and build their homes? The system that we currently have is only taking care of the ones with jobs, resources and salaries.
Underprivileged children at schools should also be taken care of. There are teachers that see that children are fainting at school.
Please kindly provide them with meals during breaks.
Please kindly provide sanitary pads at schools. Girls stay away from school because they cannot afford sanitary pads.
