Open letter to Dr. Chris Brown
THOMAS RATHENAM WRITES:
Dr Chris Brown stated that phosphate mining holds little or no threat and that most scientists agree with him.
For this bold statement to be true, certainly all members of his executive of the Namibian Chamber of Environment (NEC) should at least agree with him, yet the NEC's only position paper states the following: "We simply will not know for sure the exact impacts until mining starts - and that is why the conditions attached to the Environmental Clearance Certificate become vitally important."
I think that if the Chamber moved from that position, they have a moral obligation to the public to outline what motivated that move to Dr Brown's point of view, as well as any possible financial obligation to their generous sponsors, or you should clearly state that your position as chamber remain unchanged.
