Reluctant to act

Mandy Rittmann
CONCERNED NATIVE WRITES:

I absolutely fail to understand why the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is so reluctant to act against certain people, institutions and entities.

That bolds down to the fact what others are accusing them of saying they’re only targeting small fishes, also depending on their political affiliation with the ruling party.

It’s very disproportionate and regrettable for such an organization. They are claiming complainants must apparently travel to Windhoek to report alleged corrupt cases and practices. All this at whose costs? Why don’t they decentralize some of their functions and/or strengthen ties with the Namibian Police?

Off late, I’ve received fresh information relating to unreported N$700 000.00’s given to a certain Traditional Authority and I’m convinced all of them have received these monies. The broad community is demanding reports and answers. That was the basis on which I was demanding for the fishing quota of a certain fishing company to be withdrawn, if the impoverished rural traditional communities can’t benefit from it.

ACC Investigating officers can’t just pick up a phone and make a few telephone calls here and there and conclude that they don’t find any substantive evidence to prosecute, if so they will remain “toothless dogs” and the whistle- blowers will lose hope and keep on accusing them. I’ve noticed what the Hon. Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Derek Klazen did to cover them up. He travelled to the royal house of one of the Oshivambo Queens and dished out boxes of fish with the promise of coming to the south as well, but to no avail.

Now, the question begs for how long must we vote for the personal economic advancement of these corrupt leaders, who are promoting and defending corruption? To me corrupt leaders must be investigated, arrested and sent to jail, simply because of looting public funds and resources. Remember, this election year again and we will make sure that we vote wisely this time around. What inequalities and economic disparities are we talking about and until when? Many of these so-called Traditional Authorities are even not functional and are doing nothing. They even don’t convene any single community meeting, feedback meetings and/or submit audited financial reports as per the Traditional Authorities Act No. 25 of 2000. What hinders the authorities entrusted with the noble task to act accordingly or what special interest do they have in such cases?

Thank God, we are on the eve of “change of guard”, even if they are more corrupt.
