Season of promises
SAPIENS WRITES:
With our elections in November, we are entering the season of promises by all political parties.
The best predictor of future performance delivery of service promises is past performance.
The party we trust was in charge. The voters were loyal, but after 34 years, Namibia is still a very unequal society. Half are below the breadline with food insecurity.
A promise to deliver (Manifesto) is a verbal contract. This has not been lived up to.
The Political Honorable Servants have looked after themselves well. They are comfortable and secure. The master “people power” voters were taken for a ride.
The lip service (read my lips promises) was followed by self service and then leftover hope and with service there was no compassionate partnership between the governors and the governed.
Namibia is a country well endowed with natural resources. If shared equitably, nobody should go to bed hungry. But many do-children-the future.
In South Africa a similar scenario played out and “voter rage” shrunk the ANC. From 57% to 40% size. Trust betrayed had consequences. People can’t eat promises.
People are waking up. They are demanding honest accountable transparent service delivery, not excuses. We must move beyond Alzheimer's (forgotten promises) politics.
Namibians deserve 'better together (Harambee) we can'. Aluta Continua for economic liberation and real freedom at last.
