Succession race

Mandy Rittmann
BAB WRITES:

We bemoan the continued well-orchestrated delays in the chieftaincy race. We held a community meeting recently on 10 August 2024, without any progress or success.

The answer is very clear; there are too many people with diverse subterranean agendas, ambitions and economic interests in the chieftaincy. I believe we have the capabilities to resolve it ourselves without the Government’s interference or that of any external forces.

The Late Chief Joel Stephanus left us with clear guidelines to follow, backed by provisions of subarticles 1.4 and 1.6 of the Vaalgras Customary Law and Section 4 (1) (a) of the Traditional Authorities Act No. 25 of 2000.

In the first place, the Late Chief had designated a successor in the name of Cllr. Aaron Hage Stephanus from the royal family. So, I’m inawing the back and forth.

It’s evident that there are some sitting traditional councillors who fear losing allowances, benefits, positions, etc. In fact, they enjoy the status quo and the chaos that goes with it for their personal economic gains, and they subsequently put the interests of the broad community last.

Unnecessary confusion and havoc is being created to cling onto power for as long as possible. I don't know what the Government should doubt after having read this straight-forward article. Some individual elements are pushing for elections, which is irrelevant right now without exploring options referred to by both the above-cited legal instruments.

Therefore, I’m herewith making a clarion appeal to members of the community to desist from hogwash demeanor and to implement the wish of the Late Chief so that his soul may rest in eternal peace.

In terms of socio-economic development, we are left far behind and underdeveloped, and there’s no time to waste. So, let’s put our personal economic interests aside, personal differences aside, and focus on real business for a better tomorrow for the generations to come.
