Tribute to Dr. Sam Nujoma (Part 2)
DANIEL-ASINO YA-ASINO WRITES:
Founding President Nujoma’s death should serve as a valuable lesson for all Namibians on unity, which he always preached, which unity should transcend political differences. His death should also teach Namibians to attach great importance and reverence to the office President – irregardless of who holds the office – as it is a symbol of National unity.
In William Shakespeare's play Macbeth, Macbeth laments that, “Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more”. Even though Dr. Nujoma is no more, we should not despair like Macbeth.
Namibia should not become “a walking shadow” or a “poor player” on the continent and the global stage. Let us continue Dr. Nujoma’s legacy through implementing his Vision 2030, Namibia’s industrialisation policy, which he launched in June 2004.
Founding President Nujoma leaves behind a rich legacy of courage, resilience and unwavering dedication to the principles of freedom and justice.
As Carlos Puebla sings in his last chorus: I therefore say;
“We will go forward,
as we used to go with you,”
and with President Mbumba we say to you:
Forever, Comandante!
As he joins the roll call of distinguished and high-octane freedom fighters worth their salt in Southern Africa, like Nelson Mandela, Agostinho Neto, Kenneth Kaunda, Julius Nyerere, Robert Mugabe, Samara Machel and others; may the enduring legacy of Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Daniel Nujoma, a towering statesman, continue to inspire generations to come.
Until Forever, Commander! Go well Tatekulu! – End
