#JustIn: Govt official arrested for unauthorised use of state vehicle

Nikanor Nangolo
A government official from the ministry of environment, forestry and tourism was arrested on Thursday for misusing a government vehicle to transport private animal feed without the necessary permits.

The acting regional commander for the Kavango East Region, Eino Nambahu, confirmed the arrested which happened at 21:00 on the Trans-Caprivi Highway, Tuhingireni suburbs in the Rundu district.

According to Nambahu, the suspect’s duty station is in Khaudum National Park. He is expected to make his first appearance tomorrow in the Rundu magistrate’s court.

“The suspect was found using a state vehicle registration number GRN 31137 Toyota Land Cruiser, transporting 39 x 50kg bags of animal feed from a private dwelling in Sauyemwa without an official permit. It was further alleged that the suspect went to Sauyemwa to buy 50 bags of animal feed of which he unlawfully loaded 39 bags onto the state vehicle to take them to his farm at Karukuhwisa, however, he was intercepted by an undercover police officer before he could reach his intended destination,” he said, adding that the 39 bags of animal feed and the vehicle involved was seized.

Nambahu warned drivers of official vehicles to desist from such practices.

“Supervisors responsible must ensure proper control over these fleets. No official vehicle will be expected to be spotted parked at bars or being driven after hours unless there is an exception to drive after hours because of the criticalness of duties performed. Our undercover operatives are on the ground to observe this kind of practices and whoever is observed doing that will be brought to order through the court of law,” Nambahu said.
